Work to convert an iconic Reading department store into homes and restaurants is well underway.

The project to turn Jacksons into 33 luxury apartments and three restaurants is due to be completed by the end of the year.

The building, which is being redeveloped by Ankor Property Group, has been split into four blocks, with a new building going up behind the old shop.

It will contain a total of 20 one-bedroom and 13 two-bedroom flats but no affordable homes after a blunder by Reading Borough Council officers….
