A view of beautiful houses in North London

Property investors and developers: this is the most desirable property type

As more new homes are created across the UK, it is useful for those in the property industry to know what type of home most Brits would choose to live in.

According to a new survey commissioned by Anglian Home Improvements, Brits still fall for the architectural charm of Georgian homes.

Anglian commissioned the poll to launch a quiz, ‘Homes Across the Decades’. The quiz was aimed at finding out which architectural style and exterior design the UK home buyer would choose.

Georgian, Tudor and Victorian

The research revealed that Brits ranked Georgian architecture as the most desirable with Tudor and Victorian architectural styles claiming second and third places.

The Georgian era of architecture spanning from 1714 up until 1830 continues to offer style features that home owners continue to look for and developers try to incorporate in the 21st century.

Light, space and symmetry

The symmetrical property style, larger windows to maximise the natural light, elegance and simple design with generous ceiling heights on the ground floor and an open sense of proportion are all features sought after by Brits in a property today.

For those unable to afford an original period property or looking to enjoy the space without the maintenance costs, a new-build Georgian style property is an alternative option.

Housebuilders and developers favour the design because it is cheaper to construct compared to more elaborate styles.

The almost ‘box’-like structure, shallower roof and symmetrical kerb appeal of the front façade allow developers to build more affordably than a more complex design which requires longer construction time on site and a higher build cost.

Take the property style challenge

Users of the Anglian Home quiz are asked to take on various challenges to identify different types of homes based on illustrations. They are given advice on how to select the right windows and doors in keeping with a home’s traditional style.

BuyAssociation works with a number of developers that convert beautiful Georgian buildings into residential homes, offering an ideal investment opportunity. See our investments page for more details.
