New development set to rise on Stockport skyline


There’s more exciting news on the property scene in Stockport, with the news that a new 13-storey apartment building is set to be built in the town.

Urbanize Homes have been given permission by Stockport Council to build The Place on the former site of Greenhale House on Piccadilly, with construction by CPUK due to begin in April 2019.

The tower will include 78 one-bed and 84 two-bed dwellings, with a further two three-bedroom apartments plus a retail space on the ground floor. The Place will be smaller than the 22-storey building initially submitted, but will still be the tallest building in Stockport when completed.

“Demand for quality new homes within Greater Manchester has been consistently strong in recent years,” said Sal Arya, MD of Urbanize.

“We are delighted to have secured planning consent for The Place, without question an immensely positive stride forward for Stockport and the future of the town.”

Plans for town centre

News of the go-ahead for The Place comes just a couple of weeks after Stockport was placed second in a list of top 10 buy-to-let investment locations in England and Wales. It had moved 18 places up LendInvest’s Buy To Let Index Report since the previous figures in July.

Other plans for the town centre include at least 200 new flats, and a green space around a rebuilt bus station.

Stockport’s proximity to Manchester means that improving transport infrastructure is also on the agenda, with the possibility of a new road bridge over the River Mersey and extending the Metrolink in the future both being rumoured.
