Barclays predicts Stratford-upon-Avon will take centre stage by 2021

Close to key areas such as Birmingham, which is enjoying a boom time right now along with many other parts of the West Midlands, Stratford-upon-Avon is attracting growing numbers housebuilders, developers and investors.

All eyes are watching the West Midlands which is enjoying a high employment rate and a lot of regeneration and investment at the moment. One of the star performers in the region is Stratford-upon-Avon, and Barclays Bank has predicted that house prices in the area will surge by 23% by 2021, against a national average of around 6%.

High household income

Sitting within 20 miles of both Birmingham and Coventry, Stratford-upon-Avon is a well-located base for the whole of the Midlands, where residents enjoy a particularly good level of household income, and job opportunities abound. Enjoying its picturesque Cotswold setting, historic buildings and beautiful location on the River Avon, as the birthplace of Shakespeare, it is an internationally celebrated destination.

Stratford-on-Avon District Council is one of 14 local authorities within the Greater Birmingham Housing Market Area. Consultants have been appointed to undertake a Strategic Growth Study to consider how the shortfall in housing arising across the Housing Market Area may be accommodated via the statutory local plan-making processes.

Attracting local buyers

Adopted back in July 2016, the Core Strategy establishes the overall spatial vision for Stratford-on-Avon District up to 2031 and establishes the framework that other planning documents will build on.

Around a mile from the centre of town, Miller Homes is offering three remaining family homes priced from £440,000 at its Birmingham Road development – Montague Court. The semi-rural setting comprises energy efficient two, three, four and five bedroom homes, which have proved popular with local buyers looking to downsize but not wishing to forfeit plot size and build quality.

A spokesperson from Stratford District Council said: “We are keen to attract more housebuilders and developers with a good reputation to provide much needed homes for first-time buyers and expanding families, in a similar vein to the properties at Montague Court. Demand in our local vicinity is strong and we are actively looking at ways to create more housing and push through innovative planning applications.”
