Landlords should try these apps to help them do business

The rise of proptech has brought a new wave of apps helping landlords do anything from find tenants to manage properties and make calculations. Here are a few that could come in handy…

1. Landlord Property Buddy

This is a paid for app (from £8.99) available on Apple that lets landlords see details of rental payments made and pending, as well as offering support on partial payments, late fees and rent changes. Landlords can set up a range of notifications, invoice tenants, print income and expenses reports, and store documents such as tenancy agreements and agency invoices.

2. Mobile Landlord by Direct Line for business

Another property management app, this enables landlords to create profiles for up to five properties and store all the information, such as tenancy details, expenditure and key contacts, in one place. It also has an integrated reminder system, and a knowledge centre for advice on landlord-specific issues. It is free on Android and Apple.

3. Zoopla, Rightmove and FindaProperty

These apps aren’t new, but are still some of the best for finding out information on what properties are available for sale and rent, helping landlords stay ahead of the market as well as find new buy-to-let properties. They’re all available for free on Apple and Android.

4. Sold House Prices UK

The Sold House Prices UK app by Digitech can be downloaded for free on both Android and Apple, and allows you to find out sold prices for millions of homes in England and Wales. The prices come from the UK Land Registry so are reliable, and the app boasts access to around 20 million records.

5. Stamp Duty Calculator (UK) by The Personal Agent

This lets you enter all the relevant details in order to calculate how much stamp duty land tax (SDLT) you will need to pay on your new home. The information is all available online, but can be confusing, so it’s handy to have a calculator specifically set up to work this out. It’s available on Apple and Android.

6. Rental yield calculators

These apps help landlords easily work out their rental yield and income either as a percentage or on a weekly, monthly or yearly basis. The Property Yield Calculator on Apple costs $1.99 and helps users choose new investment properties and keep track of existing ones. Similarly on Android, Property Yield Calculator can be downloaded for £1.79 with many of the same functionalities.
