Getting around in Seville
Getting around in Seville
Airport
The main airport is Seville - San Pablo Airport, which is located about 10km northeast of the city on the main A4 (was NIV) motorway to Cordoba and Madrid.
Travelling from the airport
Bus services operate from the airport to Puerta de Jerez in the city centre. The service operates half hourly from 5.15 am – 12.15 am Monday – Saturday. On Sundays and public holidays the service runs hourly from 6.15 am to 12.15 pm, half hourly from 1.15 pm to 8.45 pm, then hourly again from 9.15 pm to 11.15 pm. The cost of a single ticket is €2.30.
There are always plenty of taxis available and they charge about €19 Monday to Saturday and €22 on Sundays and holidays to the city centre.
From Seville to the airport
Monday to Saturday the bus leaves from 5.45 am half hourly to 12.45 am. On Public Holidays and Sundays first bus is at 6.15 am then hourly until 1.15 pm, when it is every 30 minutes until 9.45 pm, then hourly again from 10.45 pm to 11.45 pm.
Taxis
Seville cabs are white; the green light on the roof indicates that the cab is free. Crossing the city centre from north to south will cost around €5, with excess charges for luggage in the boot and after 10 pm.
Car Hire
There are a number of car hire firms at the airport. However renting a car is probably not the best options for the drive to the city. Many parts of Seville were not designed for cars and the traffic can be terrible, added to this it is very difficult to get a parking space and most streets are restricted or residents only zones. If you do drive there are a few pay and display areas and some hotels have limited parking – normally at a charge. There are several multi-story car parks around the centre: Calle Sor Angela de la Cruz (near Plaza Encarnacion), Paseo Cristobal Colon (next to the river at Triana bridge), Plaza de Armas (next to the bus station) and Plaza de la Concordia (main branch of El Corte Ingles department store).
Car parking at the airport is opposite the terminal and is €1.05 for each hour or part of an hour and €6.95 for each 24 hours.
Travel cards
Seville’s orange and red local buses are the easiest and cheapest way to get around. A single journey costs €1. It is cheaper to buy a carnet of 10 tickets called a Bonobus which costs around €5, or a 1 day tourist pass for €3 or €7 for a 3 day pass. These can be bought at a kiosco (newsstand) or estanco (tobacco shop). If you plan to stay a little longer in Seville you can purchase a monthly pass (abono 30 días).
An alternative is the Sevilla Card, which offers discounts on a range of shops, bars, shows and restaurants plus free admission to most of the city’s museums and monuments and can be combined with a travel card giving you unlimited use of public transport (TUSSAM bus lines) and sightseeing buses. However unless you are visiting many tourist sites and would make use of the card when shopping it is perhaps cheaper to just buy a travel card and pay on entry to museums and tourist attractions. The card is available from the main tourist offices, airport, rail station, travel agencies or online at www.sevillacard.es.
Horse and Carriage
You can travel around the city centre in a horse and carriage. The fare is €35 per hour and you can find them next to the cathedral or at the Plaza del Espana in Parque Maria Luisa.
Boat trips
Cruceros Torre del Oro: A boat trip is one way to relax and enjoy a different perspective on the city. The cruise lasts one-hour and departs every half hour after 10 am onwards from the dock close to the Torre del Oro (Golden Tower)
