Getting around in Naples
Airport
Naples’ Capodichino Airport is international and is well served by UK airports. The closest intercontinental airport is Rome Fiumicino.
Train stations
Naples has three train stations: Central Station (also connected to the local train "Circumvesuviana" which can take you to Sorrento and the Amalfi coast), Mergellina, and Campi Flegrei. It’s worth noting that some areas around Naples can be dangerous for pickpockets and other scams, and it’s wise to not wear jewellery and to be very careful.
Buses and taxis
There are regular daily buses (“Alibus”) from Capodichino Airport to either the Central Station or to Piazza Municipio, departing every 20 minutes (30 minute journeys, price €3).
Taxis take 30 minutes and charge a fixed rate of €20 from the airport to the station or to the port (you should agree this rate with the driver before you get in!).
Boats
From Naples, there are hydrofoils and ferryboats departing frequently for Sorrento, the islands, and other destinations on the Amalfi coast, both from the ports of Molo Beverello (walking distance from Piazza Municipio) and of Mergellina (a few minutes ride by taxi or bus from Piazza Municipio). Tickets have to be purchased at the port before departure and prices range from €5 to €20 depending on distance and type of boat.
Travel cards
At news stands or tobacco shops you can buy a ticket called “Unico”, which costs €1.10, and is valid for all runs and covering 90 minutes in the city’s public transport system (all buses, trams, funiculars and Metro).
