Getting around in Florence
Getting around in Florence
Airport
Florence’s airport, Amerigo Vespucci, is located at the outskirts of the city to the northwest. City buses are available every 10-15 minutes for journeys from the airport to the city centre.
It is also possible to fly to Pisa International Airport, Galileo Galilei, from which there are private bus services to Florence which take about an hour.
Getting Around
Rail: The main train station, Santa Maria Novella, is in the heart of the town and is within walking distance of the centro storico (centre).
Buses: The city bus services are managed by public companies ATAF and LI-NEA. A single ticket costs €1.80, while a weekly travelcard costs €12. Tickets can be purchased in the main ticket office inside the train station complex, or in cafes and cigarette shops around town. Another bus company, LAZZI, offers journeys to several other cities in Tuscany (Pisa, Livorno, Lucca, Arezzo, Siena, Montecatini, Viareggio and Prato) and tickets cost between €3 and €10. The bus stop is near the train station.
Taxis
Taxis are available at several hotspots scattered around town, or by the Radio-Taxi service (+39 055 43 90, +39 055 44 99, +39 055 47 98, +39 055 42 42). A cab from the airport to the city centre costs around €15. The starting fee for a run in daytime is €2.38, and doubles at nights. During bank holidays the fee is €4. An extra charge of €0.57 is charged for each piece of luggage.
