Cheap though hip Superbude - 'Bude' is German vernacular for the old-fashioned English ‘digs’or 'lodgings' - is a hostel/hotel with low prices and high standards. Hamburg is a maritime city and in Superbude there are plenty of references to the sea. Hefty hessian rope is coiled around chair bases; anchor motifs are stencilled onto guestroom walls to indicate the bathrooms; while stools in the Kitchen Club and guest rooms have been fashioned from stacked crates of the local Astra beer then padded with hefty leather cushions. There's no room service or complimentary toiletries - but what do you expect for this price? Prices per double room with shower, toilet & flatscreen TV from €59. Breakfast [per person] extra €7
