Magic deal for Daniel - 19 December 2007

It has no moving staircases, no secret doors and no gothic towers from which to send his owl flying across the city, but nonetheless Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe found himself magically drawn towards buying an apartment in what has been described as the hottest new development in New York’s ultra-trendy SoHo – for a cool £2 million.

The young actor has made his first foray into investing the riches has he accumulated from the series of hit films, and by all accounts he may have done superb bit of business. The top floor loft in the 13-storey building at 40 Mercer, designed by French architect Jean Nouvel, has already been listed for rental by Radcliffe and could fetch an impressive £10,000 per month.

The listing agents have been instructed to look after the property for around a year, meaning that when Radcliffe comes over to Broadway to open his successful play Equus in September, the apartment will likely be occupied.

While the Harry Potter series has made all of the young stars considerable fortunes already, Radcliffe is not known for his extravagant spending, and only gained full control of his considerable finances on turning 18 in July.
