Easyjet adds Essex - Spain flights - 1 August 2011

Announcing routes to the popular Costas, in addition to Ibiza and Mallorca, the airline aims to fly 800,000 Essex residents from Southend International Airport to Spain in time for next summer.

The addition of new flights between Spain and Southend has been linked by some to the success of TV series The Only Way Is Essex. PropertyInSpain.net predicts that as tourism develops between the two places, the next series could feature a Marbella-based episode, including the area’s well-known nightclubs.

A spokesman for the show commented: "The pilot has featured parts of Marbella and nearby Puerto Banus. With nightclubs, yachts and millionaires, a fly-on-the wall series could go down a treat."

The Only Way Is Essex stars could arrive just in time to pick up a Spanish bargain, with property prices across the country expected to stay low for several years. Property journalist Marc Da Silva told Property Showroom: "In Spain, prices have been falling for quite some time. It is a wonderful opportunity to negotiate a cheap property deal.”

With the country’s current range of affordable real estate, interest has remained high for several months; requests for A Place in the Sun’s guide to buying property in Spain rose by 24% between January and May this year, indicating that an increasing number of people are aware that when looking for a property deal, the only way to move is Spain.

Many experts are predicting that Spain will show strong growth in the near future as the forerunner in the overseas property market, and the Spanish government has recently launched a new online service to help those buying property in Spain. The website has been designed to allow people to contact the Public Law Corporation of Land and Mercantile Registrars of Spain - and receive a response in English.

In less positive news for Spanish property, the IMF has warned that there may be underlying issues with the economy which have not been addressed by the wide-ranging response of the government to the economic crisis. It urged the Socialist government to strengthen reforms already underway, in particular concerning the labour market, and warned of the risk of contagion from the eurozone debt crisis.
