No escape for Mills - 19 July 2007

With little respite from the ravages of the tabloid media here in the UK, as well as the glare of media attention from her television work in the United States, you would think having a bolt hole overseas in a sleepy European village would be the perfect escape for Heather Mills.

She recently spent £400,000 on a lakeside house in Slovenia which she bought from the government. However, local villagers are angry at the sale, and say it should never have gone through as more celebrities may want to move in, destroying the peace and tranquility. Residents are also concerned at the prospect of an influx fans and paparazzi.

The estranged wife of Sir Paul McCartney has enjoyed a revival of her popularity since a successful appearance on a TV dance show in the US, and has been seeking a quiet corner away from the spotlight. It seems the arrival of a new star in the Slovenian mountains has yet to excite the local population. One resident is quoted in London’s Metro newspaper as saying: “Nothing good will come of this. There will be no peace here any more”.

It seems money can’t buy you love…
