More in Montenegro - 12 June 2007

The growing popularity of the property market in Montenegro is in evidence in a new survey released last week. Travel and tourism website Visit-Montenegro has released figures showing that the number of people passing through Tivat airport – the most important tourist gateway in the country – has increased by over 50 per cent.

The new figures show that 118,680 passengers went through the airport in the first five months of 2007, and increase of over 40,000 compared to the same period in 2006. Airport director, Ranko Boskovich also announced that in May, the airport broke its previous record for the number of passengers using the airport in a single day, breaching the 5,000 passenger barrier for the first time ever.

This growth in passenger numbers put Tivat airport on course for another record-breaking year, with estimated annual passenger projections showing up to 600,000 people using the airport in 2007.

Not only is this good news for the tourist trade in the surrounding area at this end of the Bay of Kotor, but also for the impressive growth of the property market of Montenegro. The more people visit the country, the more people are likely to want to buy a holiday home there, and given the limited supply of houses for sale in popular areas, prices are set to rise.

Increasing tourist numbers also mean that those who have already bought in Montenegro have the opportunity to market their property for rental.
