A leading agent selling property in France has predicted a great start to the year for buying in the UK’s closest neighbour, with record enquiries in the early part of 2008.

French specialists VEF have released news that they have received 50 per cent more enquiries in the first full week of this year, compared to the same period in 2007. Many clients seem to be looking for the traditional destinations in the south of France to take advantage of the better climate and slower pace of life, while Normandy and Burgundy are also showing strong growth.

While this is a short period over which to judge the prospects for property in a whole country, the signs of interest in France are good. VEF also states that this is a great time of year to be looking for property in France, as the domestic market is generally slow until March meaning there are bargains to be had.

France also benefits from the announcement that Eurostar had its best ever year in 2007, with passenger numbers up, punctuality good, and the opening of the new London terminus at St Pancras with the high-speed link that goes with it.
