How to increase bookings by properly showcasing your holiday home online

Promoting your holiday home online on one of the major holiday home marketplaces is key to increase your bookings. These holiday home portals do a very good job in getting traffic to your listing page - or in other words in getting potential guests to actually view your listing. However, getting travellers to visit your listing is only half the ticket. You would still need to convince these visitors not only to look at your holiday home listing, but to actually book your home. This process of convincing visitors to book is called “conversion”. This article gives you 3 tips on how to increase the conversion rate of your listing, i.e. how to increase the chance that a potential guest actually makes a booking.

1. High resolution and high quality photos
Photos are the most important element in increasing the conversion rate of your holiday home listing. A visitor will probably spend approx. only 10 seconds on a listing before he/she makes the first decision on whether he/she should continue considering your home. Since the photo is the first thing that visitors look at, your holiday home photo needs to be stunning. First impression counts. Thus, make sure to upload only high resolution photos and high quality photos of your holiday home. Also the more photos you provide the better. Take exterior photos of your holiday home, interior photos of each room and surrounding areas.

2. Thorough description of your home
While photos are crucial, they cannot provide all information about your property. The more detailed information you provide the better. A potential guest who will spend his money and 1-2 weeks at your holiday home will want to know everything about your property beforehand. While you should highlight the key information such as no. of beds, pool, internet, etc. you should still provide a detailed list of each apartment feature/amenities.

3. Clear pricing policy
The great majority of potential guests are price conscious. For example vague information such as “prices range from GBP 100-500 per night” is not sufficient and might even turn off guests who would have booked your home in a season where the GBP 100 would have applied. Thus, always make sure to provide enough price details so that the potential guest is able to figure out by himself the price that will apply for his stay.

Apart from the more bookings you will receive if you stick to these 3 tips, you will also have another benefit: You will need to answer far less enquiries. Since all the information is already on your listing, the guests will be already fully informed when they contact you. All questions will already have been answered and you can go straight to the topic of payment.
