Buying in Morocco
Perfect for us and the kids
Scott Hood, a 38 year old stockbroker based in the City of London, has recently bought a three bedroom fully furnished villa off plan for £250,000 at Le Jardin de Fleur in the new resort of Mediterranean-Saïdia for holidays with his family. The property, bought through Gem Estates, is fully detached and has its own private garden and swimming pool. It will be ready for occupation in 2009.
“The real appeal of Morocco for me was not just the investment potential, but the fact that the flying time from London is only three hours,” Scott says. “As well as that, the resort itself has plenty of facilities – buying a property there means automatic membership to the resort golf club, gym and sporting facilities. This is perfect, as I have three teenage children who need to be able to get out and about and entertain themselves.”
Mystical aura
Having looked at several options for an overseas home, Scott believes that the more traditional European property markets of Spain and Portugal are now too over priced and don’t deliver enough investment potential. He has similar views on Dubai, which also has the added drawback of longer flying time. He has visited the resort twice now – on the first occasion ten months ago he says it was difficult to picture how everything would look actually built on the 6 kilometre beachfront. More recently, he took another trip out there and was sufficiently impressed by the fact that the harbour and marina have been built, with construction of the golf course also in full swing.
Scott says, “People have told me I’m mad to buy something in Morocco off plan, but the fact that Mediterranean-Saïdia is backed by the government and has been quite high profile has given me confidence. Besides, I know I will have a great holiday home with the potential for capital growth, the high spec of a European development and the mystical aura of Africa.”
