Insurance – 10 General Tips

10) Go to the Financial Ombudsman

If, your claim is rejected despite your best efforts, you can complain to the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS), an independent arbitrator.

Make sure you first receive a “break letter” from the insurer, in which it says it is not prepared to go further. Then contact the FOS. It may be worthwhile researching the FOS site first to see how similar complaints to your own have been dealt with before: it carries lots of case histories that may well help your case – potentially allowing you to short-circuit that annoying letter from your insurer turning down your claim. A very satisfying feeling indeed.
