Universal Body Contour Wrap
What it is
The Universal Contour Wrap is possibly the fastest and most effortless way of losing inches, albeit not permanently. This non-surgical treatment guarantees a minimum loss of six inches from your body. It exfoliates and cleanses the skin, detoxifies, tightens loose tissue and reduces the appearance of cellulite and stretch marks. Not bad for two hours on a bed.
The number of inches lost varies from person to person but the average is between 10 and 14 on the first wrap. The benefits aren’t just for those looking for a weight loss solution; this treatment has the effect of making you feel lighter and fresher.
What it does
The Universal Contour Body Wrap was designed to reduce inches rather than take off pounds. As it involves the removal of toxins, rather than fat, actual weight loss is minimal.
After completing a health questionnaire, you’ll be measured all over - typically around the jawline, neckline, upper chest, under the bust, waist, abdomen, buttocks, hips, thighs, knee, calf, forearm and wrist. These points are marked in pen so that the therapist can measure again after the wraps have been removed to calculate the total inch loss.
After the measurements have been taken, you’re covered in a mineral salt and clay paste before being wrapped tightly from ankle to neck in warm, elasticated cotton bandages pre-soaked in a mineral salt and clay solution. The treatment works by using special wrapping techniques that ‘lift’ and ‘shape’ the body, while the sea clay solution purges the body of toxins stored between the fat cells, and removes dead skin. It is this detoxification process that actually makes your inches disappear. And it’s why you lose inches but not weight.
Between 22-30 wraps will be applied during a single treatment. Once wrapped, you might be helped into a light vinyl suit and/or wrapped in a blanket to keep you warm. You’ll then be left alone to relax, before the therapist returns to remove the wraps and re-measure you.
How you feel
The benefits of the Universal Contour Wrap are felt after rather than during the treatment when you see the change in your post-wrap shape and feel it in your looser-fitting clothes.
The wraps don't allow much room for movement, leaving you little choice but to lie still and relax. If you’re at all claustrophobic it's worth talking to a therapist before you book a treatment. One option for those who feel constricted being wrapped up is to have their arms left out of the blankets.
What you should know
The Universal Contour Wrap is suitable for virtually everybody, apart from expectant mothers. Either way, you’ll be asked to fill in a detailed health questionnaire before the treatment begins to be sure it’s suitable for you.
Inch loss is accumulative; a course of three wraps is recommended for maximum benefit. Each should be taken seven to 10 days apart, and the average overall inch loss is normally around 25 inches - it all depends on your size. Women who’ve had a course of wraps usually go down a complete dress size.
This treatment is highly recommended for firming up the abdominal and bust areas and softening stretch marks.
The cost
A single wrap costs around £45, and a course of three from around £100. Prices vary regionally.
The availability
Widely available at beauty salons and spas nationwide.
