Laser Dentistry now on offer - 10 November 2008

The pace of development of new and easier cosmetic treatments does not appear to be about to let up, an as more, easier and faster treatments become available to the public, more people will be convinced of the viability of having treatment themselves.

One example of this is the progression of the range of cosmetic dentistry procedures on the market – and another addition has just been made to the growing list of readily-available treatments. The Perfect Smile Studios & Academy are now one of the few clinics in the UK to be able to offer state-of-the-art laser dentistry.

Taking away some of the most feared and unpleasant side-effects of traditional visits to the dentist, laser dentistry gives the patient a chance to set aside any fears or anxieties they may have of having dental work carried out. Not only does the technique require no local anaesthetic to be administered for treatments such as fillings, it also rules out the need for the dreaded drill to be used.

Dr. Rahul Doshi, partner at The Perfect Smile Studios & Academy, said, “The list of benefits of laser dentistry really is quite extensive. It’s quick and painless with little or no local anaesthesia needed. By allowing a skilled dentist to focus in very specific areas of the mouth, teeth and /gums, post-operative discomfort is greatly reduced. We’ve found that offering laser treatments to patients who are very anxious about dental treatments and visits to the dentist puts them immediately at ease as they recognize that treatment is over and done-with much quicker, with no stitches and very little bleeding as the laser helps blood to coagulate.”

Laser dentistry is being used in a number of procedures at the clinic, but one of the most common is for gum disease treatments. As the laser energy is antibacterial, it can treat the symptoms of the problem as well as the cause. Using lasers over the course of a series of treatments is said to be very effective. The technique is also finding a variety of uses in more cosmetic treatments, such as crown-lengthening and gum contouring.
