Reality star has 10 procedures in one day - 21 January 2010

American Reality TV star Heidi Montag has admitted to having ten cosmetic surgery procedures in one day, but has still denied being addicted to changing her body. The star of TV series The Hills has unveiled her new look to incredulity, even from her co-stars.

ABC News reported that she had undergone ten different cosmetic procedures in the same sitting last November, in an operation which lasted ten hours. The procedures undertaken are alleged to have included Botox, a mini brow lift, rhinoplasty revision, fat injections, chin reduction, neck liposuction, ear pinning, breast augmentation and a buttock augmentation.

Montag’s surgeon claimed the procedures were only ‘little tweaks’ and it that it was safer to do them all together. Montag herself has claimed that she isn’t addicted to surgery, stating that she has in fact only had two operations – one three years ago, and the most recent bout of procedures.

Media commentators have expressed concerns about the example the reality TV star is setting for younger fans, and even her co-stars have expressed their reservations. Lo Bosworth, who also appears in The Hills, said: 'I hope that girls don't read the article, look at the decisions that Heidi made, and think that's normal.' Chimed Audrina Partridge: 'Ten procedures in one day is a little much.'

Montag herself has admitted that the procedures and her recovery from them has been painful. The 23-year-old stated : 'The pain was everywhere', adding: 'My head felt like it had a jackhammer on it. I couldn't talk because of my jaw and chin... I was like, "I wanna die right now. I'm in so much pain. I don't know what to do".'

Despite this, she hasn’t ruled out more surgery in the future.

However, The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (www.baaps.org.uk) advised those considering plastic surgery against having multiple procedures to radically change their looks.

According to Adam Searle, former President of BAAPS; “Despite the popularity of ‘makeover’ reality shows, the majority of people who would consider plastic surgery do not want to drastically change their appearance. Yet there are those who, given the opportunity, would elect to undergo an excessive amount of procedures for a complete body overhaul and never be happy with the outcome. There is a real danger attached to having many procedures at once, including a higher risk of infection and longer time to be spent under anaesthetic.”
