Mother-daughter surgery on the rise - 13 May 2010

Cosmetic surgeons in the US have reported seeing more family pairs in their clinics than ever before, reportedly following in the footsteps of celebrities who have gone in for surgery at the same time as other family members.

Reports in the American media suggest that model Christie Brinkley underwent facelift surgery last month, while her daughter from her marriage to Billy Joel, Alexa, had a rhinoplasty prodecure. According to the reports, a mother/daughter pairing from reality TV show The Real Housewives of Orange County, Lynne and Raquel Curtin, underwent the same set of procedures at the same time.

The reasons behind having procedures performed at the same time are varied, but surgeons say it tends to start with the mother. The mother decides to have some surgery, and seeing the results daughters often follow them into the clinic. There is probably an element of the mother taking the fear out of the procedure for their daughter. The other reason for this kind of pattern of surgery has to do with a family trait which both the mother and daughter elect to have changed at the same time.
