1 in 10 women embarrassed by partner’s appearance - 14 April 2010

In a survey carried out by the UK’s only cosmetic treatment review website, 11 per cent of women admitted feeling embarrassed about their boyfriend’s appearance. The research, carried out by www.goodsurgeonguide.co.uk, surveyed 1,312 women in relationships in a bid to find out more about women’s opinions on male appearance.

16 per cent of women also admitted to feeling embarrassed by their partner’s dress sense, while 22 per cent said they would end a relationship if their partner had bad dress sense or style. 43 per cent of women said they would instead try to improve their partner’s appearance instead of ending the relationship.

Of those women polled in the survey, 18 per cent said they would buy their partner a cosmetic treatment to improve their appearance, while 31 per cent would encourage them to undergo a non-invasive procedure in later life. 34 per cent said they had no objection to their partner having cosmetic surgery.

Christiana Clogg, founder of The Good Surgeon Guide said: “The decision to have a cosmetic treatment should be a personal one. Of course people ask the opinions of friends, family and spouses, but ultimately it will only be the individual going under the knife. Cosmetic surgery is becoming more acceptable within society every week; it shouldn’t make a difference what sex you are.”

She continues: “Whether you are male or female, single or married, cosmetic surgery is personal and a very big step. If you are considering it, have a procedure that you are sure about, and with a practitioner that you have researched, met and feel comfortable with.”

Further figures from the survey suggest the obsession with celebrity continues to grow – 83 per cent of women said they found a celebrity more attractive than their partner, while a worrying 39 per cent said they try to style their partner like a celebrity.
