Lower Body Lift

The lower body lift is part of a general area in cosmetic surgery called body contouring, and is an operation which removes large amounts of skin and fat from the stomach, hips, thighs, and back. This is an operation designed mainly for men or women who have lost large amounts of weight and are left with saggy and unattractive skin around the stomach, buttock, thighs, and hips.

The nature of this operation means long cuts need to be made in the skin and these will obviously leave long scars afterwards. The length of the scar will depend on how much excess skin is removed, and may stretch across the upper buttock, outer and inner thighs; wherever possible these are positioned so that they can be hidden by underwear.

Crescent shaped segments of skin and fat are removed from the buttock and thigh areas. The remaining skin and tissue are lifted to achieve a tighter and smoother effect. This procedure is also often combined with an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck).

Lower body lifts are usually performed under a general anaesthetic. The operation usually takes 4-5 hours, depending on the extent of work required, (and if liposuction is performed at the same time), and you may be released to go home after a few hours, or stay in hospital for one or two days. Recovery generally takes two to three weeks or longer, and most people usually return to work in a couple of weeks, and resume vigorous exercise in approximately six weeks.

Private costs for a lower body lift start from approximately £4,000.

Please note that all clinics offering cosmetic surgery should be registered with the Healthcare Commission, as they need to follow certain standards for the safe provision of cosmetic surgery and receive regular inspections to ensure that National Minimum Standards are met.
