Facial injectables - Dalia Nield

Unsual advice: Feed your face this Christmas!

While cosmetic surgery has enjoyed exponential growth over the years and remains steady despite the economic climate, I am seeing in my practice a shift towards specialised topical skincare to postpone or avoid the need for surgical cosmetic treatments. The popularity of injectables such as Botox and dermal fillers is still increasing, but it is a myth that these treatments will actually improve the quality of the skin. In my practice I have introduced an advanced ‘skin feeding’ treatment to help nourish skin, and this is fast becoming one of the most popular procedures at the moment. The Sesha range of treatments and products that I am using are more powerful and effective than ‘beauty salon’ treatments; Sesha uses new technology to deliver antioxidants deep into the skin for the first time, where no other product can penetrate. This range of ‘skin feeding’ products and treatments has already been recognised this year as Topical Product of the Year at the Aesthetic Medicine Awards. It uses patented and FDA cleared Permeation Enhancement Technology PET™, which has the ability to safely solubilise active ingredients so that they can effectively penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin where active ingredients can operate at their optimum level. The range offers treatments and products that can be used to combat ageing, acne, hyperpigmentation and provide sun protection.

So much can be achieved with facial cosmetic surgery, but the quality of the skin will always have a direct influence on the end result. The skincare market is huge and with the plethora of products claiming to turn back the clock, choosing the right anti-ageing and skin-protecting products can be an absolute minefield. The problem is that despite the availability and recognition of the benefits of ingredients such as peptides, anti-oxidants and collagen-stimulants, to name but a few, many of them are in a form that merely sits on the surface of the skin with limited penetration ability. The only way to actually change the permeation of the skin is if the active ingredients are able to penetrate the skin intercellularly. It is not just the ingredients that are important but the delivery of those ingredients to where they are needed in the skin’s many layers.

Women are now treating anti-ageing as an ongoing maintenance programme rather than waiting until everything sags and droops and then trying to rectify the damage with a facelift. Using effective topical products is an excellent way to kick-start the anti-ageing process. I am very careful about what treatments I introduce at my clinic and usually very sceptical about claims that are made by manufacturers, but I have seen excellent results with the Sesha range - real visible differences and patients feel that the quality of their skin is enhanced and improved. There is no miracle out there when it comes to anti-ageing, and looking after the skin is an on-going effort made up of many factors. Good quality skin will stand you in good stead however you decide to age – with or without cosmetic surgery.
