Elastic Skin is Fantastic Skin

The ABC of how to ensure your skincare will help you with this holy grail of skincare benefits.

What does teenage growth, pregnancy, aging, weight loss or gain, sun damage all have in common? Every single one of these lifestages or skin challenges affect your body’s largest organ in a very fundamental way; demanding its inherent and amazing elasticity to work to maximum effect. But as we age, gravity takes its toll and your skin is literally weighed down as the support structures of collagen and elastin deteriorate and stop giving your skin the scaffolding that kept it firm, bouncy, resilient and young looking. There is no mystery or rocket science about why our skin deteriorates – it is the loss of skin elasticity.

Over the last 16 years in the development of Mama Mio, we have become the specialists in maintaining skin elasticity. We earned our repututation in helping women cope with pregnancy, a miracle and an extreme body challenge. Your taut tummy skin will stretch 30 inches in 40 weeks and then be expected to ‘snap back’ in only a few months. This is a very good example of how incredible your skin actually is. However, the dramatic stretch marks that some women can be left with are the proof of how important it is to recognise the value of skin elasticising ingredients. As we always say – put up a fight!

But as we age, gravity takes its toll and your skin is literally weighed down as the support structures of collagen and elastin deteriorate and stop giving your skin the scaffolding that keeps it firm, bouncy, resilient and young looking. And I am not just talking about those 12 square inches on your face. Think about this – what actually holds your boobs up? No; not your pecs, not your bra – it is your skin. And so whatever your shape or size, that is a lot of pull and drag over the years on your delicate décolletage skin.

When looking for ‘skin elasticising’ ingredients, focus on the following:

A. The Essential Nourishers Omega 3, 6 and 9

Omegas (essential fatty acids) are vital to the health and integrity of every cell in your body – including your skin. Our Western diet is often weak in some essential Omegas and your skin will be one of the first places to show this deficiency. The dietary and topical supplementaton of Omega 3, 6 and 9 is well documented to help maintain good healthy skin elasticity, nourishing your skin cells with the vital nutrients it easily recognises.

B. Collagen and Elastin Encouragers

Applying collagen direct to your face may ‘moisturise’ but it will not actually be used within your skin cells, adding to your existing collagen to give you more. What is needed is any ingredient (peptides/amino acids/proteins usually) that will encourage the further production of your own skin collagen.

C. Collagen and Elastin Protectors

Antioxidants such as CoQ10, Green Tea, Vitamins A, C and E are all renowned as both internal supplements and ingredients in skincare to be your shield in the fight against free radical damage. Free radicals are skin cell scavengers that damage the health, elasticity and therefore the youth of your skin.

So remember, your skin is your largest organ and does an ingredible job of holding you in and holding you up – and making you look and feel gorgeous. Reward every inch of it with appropriate, quality skincare and when looking for the best, most effective SKIN ELASTICISING formulas, keep it simple and follow the ABC. Trust me, your skin will thank you in years to come!
