Dental Aesthetics

More patients than ever are realising that it is not just the facelift that can transform an ageing face, there are other factors than can determine anoverall pleasing result. Your plastic surgeon can only work with the underlying structure you present to him so will normally address the hollows with a fat transfer or filler, which over time will be absorbed.

Our teeth can wear, darken and chip as we age so one-way of rejuvenating the mouth area is to have restorative dentistry to present a youthful smile.

Missing teeth can also lead to cosmetic problems due to over closure of the mouth, which causes the lower third of the face to appear shorter. With many patients, they may wear a denture or a partial dentureor have a bridge or bridges made to replace missing teeth and restore facial height.

Unless you have the denture made with an expert in this field, they will be not exactly natural looking, usually all the same length with no variation in density as in natural teeth.

Custom-made teeth normally cost in the region of £3500 upwards depending on how many teeth are required.

The majority of patients dread the thought of a denture and a bridge may not always be possible or practical. Now there is an alternative.
Dental implants are basically titanium screws that are carefully placed in the jaw to replace the roots of teeth. The bone then attaches to the implant surface and forms a direct bond with it, making the implant part of your body, potentially for life. Once the bone has attached, the implant can then be used to support a new crown (false tooth) or several implants can be used to support a bridge or a denture. The result is very good and can really improve a person’s self esteem by replacing function and aesthetics. Implants are not without their limitations though and it is very important to be fully informed about the possibilities before embarking on a treatment that can be quite costly.

Variations on this include having the implant placed with a temporary tooth (or a bridge) immediately on top. Sometimes it is possible to remove the bad tooth and place an implant at the same time. And sometimes it’s possible to remove the tooth, place an implant and place the crown all in one visit. Naturally, with every variation from the norm, there is an element of risk that it might not work so well and that the implant might fail. This is why it is very important to see an implant surgeon who is well trained and experienced and knows what’s best for you.

The average price for a single tooth implant (i.e. the implant and the crown) in the UK is about £2100. It can be higher when one of the more expensive systems is being used and when the implant dentist is particularly qualified or experienced. It can be lower when the less expensive systems are used or when the implant dentist is making a special offer or is doing multiple implants in one case. Unfortunately, some patient’s fall into the trap of the practice that advertises the ‘implant’ for something like £600 but then all becomes apparent when they then tell you it’s another £2000 for the crown! Ask the practice what their fee includes, what extras it might entail and how experienced/qualified the dentist is.

Just as all implants are not the same, all dentists are not the same. At Zenith Dentistry, their focus is on dental implantology. Whilst some dentists place implants with minimal training we strongly recommend you find a dentist with extensive training and experience. At Zenith Dentistry based in Conan Doyle House, Devonshire Place, which is in the prestigious Harley Street area of London, you will see Dr Ali Latif who has a master's degree in dental implantology and has studied under several pioneers of the field in London, Marseille and Alexandria. Ali's extensive training and experience in dental surgery gives him a unique set of skills to ensure you get the best implant treatment available. Ali is also an accomplished general and restorative dentist and will be happy to discuss all your cosmetic or restorative needs.
