How to create your personal health farm
Detox! Detox! Detox! It’s on everyone’s mind and conversation this month, especially after a month of Christmas festivities and New Year indulgence. And yet, countless of men and women after taking the resolution to make the change TODAY to detox every aspect of their life will fall back into the habit of their busy ‘modern life’.
So why do we need to detox? And how do we keep to our resolution and making it a part of us. Detoxing or spring cleaning yourself is a preventative measure that will rid your body of the build-up of excess waste and toxins accumulated over the years. It will bring control back into your life and the natural balance back into your body, thus getting you to your peak of your health. It provides your body with all the energy it requires to operate, and more to ‘mend’ any damage already caused. It will enhance your circulation, cleanse your system and improve your immune system. Imagine this…. 2 more hours per day, glowing skin, weight loss of several pounds, high energy levels, clear-headedness, higher thresholds for stress and tension, no cellulite, good body tone and a great feeling of being relaxed and totally in control of how you feel….. that’s why you should detox.
There are many books and programs on how to detox so find the one that suits you best. Also, like any new change in your lifestyle, no matter how small, needs concentration and effort. Be gentle on yourself and look at it with a positive view that you will have a healthier mind and body through this program, trying all the new foods and activities, rather than what you will be missing out. It is important to keep to your Detox program for at least 30 days to make it effective and instilling a new habit as part of you – consider it as your Detox Oasis – your personal month at your very own health farm.
Below are some aspects of a Detox program which will be good to remember.
1. BE PREPARED – prepare your larder and fridge with the right foods.
Prepare your bath and kitchen with the essential tools. Be prepared mentally – start your program when you don’t have too many social and work commitments ahead.
2. FOODS on the Detox Program
• Drink a cup of hot water and lemon juice first thing in the morning
• During the day, drink at least 2L of water
• Take 2 liver tonics a day – e.g. garlic tablet, medium bunch of
black grapes, medium glass of pure carrot and beetroot juice or cups of fennel tea.
• Take 2 kidney tonics a day – e.g. freshly squeezed cranberry juice
(sweetened with honey if required) or a teaspoon of fresh honey dissolved in a cup of hot water.
• Take a multivitamin every day.
• Eat at least 3 meals every day from the right food list – ideally
breakfast before 9am, lunch before 2pm, and evening meal before 7pm.
• Have at least 3 portions of raw fruit and vegetable per day.
• Have at least 1 portion of rice everyday – preferably short grain
rice. It acts as a good ‘plunger’ for our intestines.
• Have at least 1 portion of non-dairy yogurt, cheese or milk everyday
(non-dairy means goat’s, or sheep’s products, rice products (i.e. rice
milk) or soya products (i.e. soya milk)
• Have 2 portions a day of either pulses, nuts, herbs, olives or any
seed oil, or fish.
3. BODY CARE on the Detox Program
• Take a cold shower every morning – for the very brave but this
improve your circulation and jump start your lymphatic drainage for the day, not to mention a great wake up call!
• Do dry skin brushing every morning – brushing helps to improve blood
and lymph circulation, allowing more efficient waste drainage, cell production and renewal.
• Self-massage every morning and evening – helps to relax the body and
aid elimination of waste and toxins.
• Take 30 minutes exercise every day – be creative in your busy
schedule e.g. walking up and down the stairs a few times before putting the kettle on in the morning. Go to a nightclub to dance instead of the pub.
• Have 10 minutes relaxation every day
• Have 5 minutes quality breathing everyday
• Say 5 affirmations or visualisations every day – it should be
positive and short e.g. I have a healthy body. I am happy with my body. I am feeling great. I am feeling energetic.
• Smile or laugh heartily every day
• Exfoliate every 3 days
• Take an Epsom salt bath every 5 days – high in magnesium, this is
great to ‘draw’ out toxins from the body. Just make sure you take it in the evening as it will make you feel totally relaxed and sometimes ‘drained’!
And finally, enjoy the experience… You will have moments of ‘side effects’ e.g. mild headache, lethargy, irritability, constipation and spots…take it as your body flushing out the toxins and it will pass. In 2 weeks into the program, you will feel like a new person! So go on and take that 30 day challenge – detox yourself to better health and look great for the rest of the year!
