“To me, my dental implants are a miracle”

Deputy Ivan Rihoy, Deputy Minister of the Environment Guernsey Parliament, had a four tooth denture at the front with a four bridge loose along side and was desperate for a solution. Dentists he had approached said there was nothing he could do. Following an internet search, however, he found a dental spa in London, and after a consultation found that he could have dental implants to create a natural looking set of teeth. This is an option he had not previously considered.

He talks to BuyAssociation about the procedure.

What procedure did you have?
I had a full upper mouth of implants

Why did you decide to have the procedure?
I was left with the imposition of having a full upper mouth of false teeth – no dentist I saw in Guernsey had informed me of ‘mini implants’ – it was only by going on the web and finding Kensington Dental Spa that I realised implants were available.

Tell us about your first appointment
I had a full examination lasting two to three hours – a full consultation. As I live in Guernsey, the initial part of the work was carried out the following day, a fantastic gesture especially being a Saturday!

How did you feel before the procedure?
I did feel nervous, but I was made to feel very relaxed and confident in the specialist.

Describe what happened during the procedure.
I was in the chair for about six hours – however, not in too much discomfort. I could certainly imagine the drilling going on, but I didn’t feel anything. I did know when the implants were fitted and there were many pictures taken to ensure the final outcome would be excellent – which obviously it was.

What did you have in terms of pain relief?
I had actually had no pain – only the normal effects you have when the anaesthetic wears off – just a minor sore jaw.

Were there any complications during the procedure?
None whatsoever – it was a very professional job

How did you feel immediately after the procedure?
I felt fine after the first part of the treatment – after six hours in the chair, I flew back to Guernsey

How did you look immediately after the procedure?
No different – with the exception of a temporary upper mouth set of teeth which in itself looked great

How did you feel and look three months after the procedure?
Absolutely great with a set of excellent upper teeth – just as I looked ten years earlier!

Were there any complications during the recovery period?
None at all

What surprised you the most about the procedure?
The fact that there was no pain and that it was undertaken from start to finish in under two weeks. I really felt like a new man with fresh look of confidence.

Are you happy with the results?
Yes, I certainly am. I can highly recommend implants to anyone considering this procedure, it has given me back my looks and confidence.

Given the opportunity, would you do it again?
Most certainly. It is best thing that has happened in respect of my teeth. I would recommend anyone to get implants – don’t get false teeth. To me, my dental implants are a miracle.
