Those dieting blues - 12 May 2008

It’s been three weeks since I had my Ultrashape treatment, and I have seen a bit of a difference – though admittedly I have been on a diet for those three weeks so it’s difficult to tell what it is that has shifted the extra on the thighs.

As of this morning the bathroom scales showed that I have lost 12 lbs so far – only two stone to shift before I reach my goal – meaning it will likely take around another two months to attain. That’s just depressing. If you have ever been on a diet you’ll know how much self discipline is required not to have that piece of chocolate or that additional glass of wine. Despite the fact that I am a convert to Weightwatchers – it has a brilliant online resource for managing your diet and you can eat what you want, just less of it – being on a diet just seems like purgatory to me.

And I’m sure I’m not the only one! Add this to the fact that I am one of those people who has to force myself to exercise. I really don’t hold any truck with those freaks who say they love it. Granted, I quite like the buzz afterward and of course I like the look of toned muscles, rather than dimply flab, but why is it that I just find it a chore?

Three years ago, a year before I got married, I was three stone heavier than I am now. After getting the snaps back from Boots of a blissful holiday in Florida with my intended, I actually cried at the sight of myself in army fatigues and Birkenstocks posing in the Everglades, lamenting, “This is not the goddess I know I am!” I immediately embarked on a very strict regime of diet and exercise and the flab just melted away before my eyes. Anyone can tell you that the thought of being a chubby bride is a great motivator, and perhaps this was where I got my mojo to work so hard, but what am I to do now?

On Wednesday I have another Ultrashape treatment – they are going to zap the same areas they zapped three weeks ago – and I am determined to make this my motivator. In the interests of those of you who are interested to know if the treatment works I shall determinedly plough on, rejecting those after work glasses of rosé and scampi fries and donning my MBTs. And in the meantime friends, any words of wisdom on how to enjoy one’s diet and exercise regime will be gratefully and humbly received.
