The liposuction diaries - 17 January 2008

No, this is NOT my thigh
Day one – the realisation
OK so I do hate my thighs. Always have – let’s just say that I am a (normal) woman in her early 30s of the curvaceous persuasion. I talked jokingly in my last post about “getting it sucked out”…and guess what? I am now seriously considering it.
I think I might even “do a Theroux”. For those who don’t know, BBC journalist Louis Theroux recently underwent liposuction surgery to see what it was like, and report back. His surgery was filmed whilst he was conscious and I have a feeling he didn’t actually have any anaesthetic. If I do decide to go ahead there is absolutely no chance that I won’t be completely unconscious. Are you mad?
There are a number of obstacles and reservations I’m going to have to overcome in order to get to that point though. Namely (ah, let’s list ‘em):
- my mortal dread of needles
- the fact that I smoke (yes, yes, shame on me)
- the fact that I will need to lose a some weight – I’m told by experts that liposuction works best on fat that the patient has worked hard to get rid of through diet and exercise to no avail (that will be my saddlebags then)
- my allergy to the gym and all of its equipment
Oh, and my complete fear of any pain whatsoever
There’s more but we can look at them later. My next step is to have a consultation with someone who knows what they are doing. I will be interviewing plastic surgery consultant Wendy Lewis in February. Wendy’s known as “the Knife Coach” in the US who has consulted with celebs and royalty on cosmetic surgery. I’m going to ask Wendy what she thinks of my plan, and if she thinks I’ll be a good candidate. I’ll also be expecting her to convince me, as at this point in time, I’m quite sceptical and not a little scared.
I’ll let you know how it goes.
