The liposuction diaries: Laser lipo – a revelation? - 15 February 2008
Posted by Felicity Quigley 10 comments
After my wobble (ha!) the other week, I was utterly convinced that liposuction was not for me – it just seemed too extreme and risky. But I still have my faithful saddlebags and they’re not going anywhere, and despite the fact that I’ve served them an eviction notice, they are still squatting on the prime real estate that is my silken thighs.
What to do? While caught up in the stress and responsibility of daily life, it was brought to my attention last week that there may be an alternative, in the form of “Laser Lipo”. Apparently, this is a completely non-invasive procedure that entails the attachment of Diode laser paddles to the offending areas for 10 minutes or so, while the laser works its magic. Two smaller probe lasers are also placed on the lymph nodes to encourage drainage of the fatty acids that are broken up by the Diode lasers. The paddles are then relocated and the process is repeated for another 10 minutes. Following this, the patient is placed on a vibration plate machine to break down the fat in the cells that the laser has zapped.
Intrigued by this apparently pain free alternative, I spoke to a woman who had taken this treatment to find out if it was all it was cracked up to be. Suzy Thomas was more than happy to talk to me, saying that she was delighted with the results, which entailed eight sessions in all. Suzy had localized fat around her bottom and stomach that she’d been trying to shift with diet and exercise with little success. Spotting an advertisement for this new procedure in a Sunday supplement, Suzy went to the clinic for a consultation and had her first session the same day. “For £1,000, which was cheaper than normal or Smart lipo, I even found that my cellulite was reduced,” she said. “I did work out on those problem areas in between sessions, which definitely helped the process. I noticed a change after the first session – they asked me to come in wearing tight clothes, and my trousers were definitely looser afterwards.”
Sounds too good to be true, doesn’t it? It’s time to find out. Currently only offered in one clinic in the UK, if this new process really does work, it could certainly revolutionise the liposuction industry. No pain, no surgery, no needles and great results – what’s not to like?
Time for some fieldwork, methinks – I’m going to go to this clinic and have a session or two (maybe even eight!) and let you know what happens.

I had laser lipo to my abdomen without my husband knowing. I had to get myself a better compression garment to the one I was provided...found good ones at www.holisticgarmentsdirect.co.uk
Go for the black ones as even if the garment shows it is less obvious and bit more sexy....

I am going tomorrow (4th March) for a trial session and dependent on what the outcome of that is, I will be booking the recommended course of 8 treatments. According to the clinic, I should expect to see results immediately. The clinic will refund the money for the trial session if I book the course.
