Financing Improvements

If you need extra finance for home improvements, discuss this first with your mortgage lender. Re-mortgaging your home to pay for major improvements has never been better value with historically low interest rates in recent years. If you don’t have a mortgage you can obtain a low-interest loan secured on your home. Some local authorities provide home improvements grants, particularly to modernise older houses, and there are also many grants for energy saving schemes (for information contact the Energy Advice Centre, (0845-727 7200, Energy Saving Grants). Grants are also available from councils to help owners and tenants on low incomes pay for improvements and repairs. Check with your local council or a Citizens Advice Bureau.
