Battle of the Costas

The many and varied Costas in Spain are the focus of the show, where Adrian Mills is joined in the studio by Managing Editor of a Place in the Sun magazine, Nigel Lewis, and Jim Dick, of agents Headlands International.
Nigel Lewis kicks off by talking through the general state of the property market in Spain, and the impact of the recent corruption scandals that have rocked the country, particularly on the Costa del Sol. He then gives us an overview of the types of markets, buyers and prices that you can expect to pay for property in the Costa Brava, Costa Dorada and the Costa de la Luz, including a mention of the most ‘gay-friendly’ of all the Costas.
Jim Dick is then in the hot seat to discuss the markets of the Costa Blanca, Costa Cálida and Costas Almería and Azahar, including a very good explanation of the history of the Valencia Land Grab, its impact on the market, and how it will affect this regional property market in the future.
The Costa del Sol and the Spanish islands are then the focus of the round table discussion. The Costa del Sol, the most famous (and generally most expensive) Costa of them all continues to command higher prices, due to its complement of beaches, championship golf courses and excellent accessibility. Although the region was the hardest hit in terms of the corruption scandals, its somewhat infamous reputation continues to ensure its popularity. Although not technically Costas, the panel also talk us through property prices and markets in the Balearics, with Majorca still a firm favourite with British buyers. Nigel and Jim give us their hot tip on where to get most for your money out of all the Costas, and exactly where they themselves would buy if given the choice.
As ever, we dip into our inbox to answer some of your overseas property related questions. This time, what £80,000 will get you on the Spanish Costas, where to start when you want to let out your overseas property for holiday rentals, and the benefits of buying a golf property.
Below, you can download our free Buying Guide to Spain which accompanies the show, which includes vital information on the legal process in Spain, tax and finance. You can also listen to our special podcasts on different regions in Spain, from the Costa Brava, Costa Blanca, and Costa de la Luz to the Costa del Sol and the Spanish islands.
