A very different Portugal to the one most people imagine, Christina Hippisley, Editor of Portugal Magazine, chats with Adrian Mills about the Costa Verde or Green Coast, in northern Portugal.

Stretching along the Atlantic coast from Porto and including Minho and Douro Litoral, the Costa Verde has a cooler climate than its southern counterparts with more rainfall, hence the name. There's a small but perfectly formed British expat community, which is an appealing prospect to the main UK property market - predominantly retirees seeking a relaxed pace of life in the "true slice of Portugal".

The types of properties you can expect in the region tend to be older manor or village houses, which will need some modernisation. Christina talks us through the average property prices and what sort of budget you'll need to put aside to own a home there.
